Quick low quality video of BeOS 5 pro booting on my Dell Optiplex GX1, with the casing mostly removed no less.

Specs:
Proc - 500MHz PIII
RAM - 256MB
HDD - 10GB slim seagate
Optical - CD-ROM and CD-RW (not connected)
Video/Enet/IDE/etc all onboard

And it's all fully supported under Be)S 5 pro, yay!

  • wow slow bios

  • nah the bios is pretty snappy, the slow part is checking the ram.

  • wtf beos is

  • Be Operating System

  • It's not crappy, it's just really really old. It's not my main machine, either.

Back in 1998 you would have died to own this machine. ;)

  • Hey I just picked up an Optiplex GX1 but it has a password login required from the previous owner do you know how I can bypass this or reset it so I can get access?

  • @john8520 had one of these pc,i wish i kept it....

  • BeOS; later renamed to Haiku Operating System!

  • Holy crap. I haven't used this since I had Win98SE on an IBM PC 300PL. It booted slowly and wasn't compatible. But I still like it.

  • @didyaronamus I've never had luck getting Ubuntu to format, and I've bought a few, Linux based, but I go back to Windows, it's just so easy, really

  • @john8520 More like looking for the IDE drives, if you go into Dell's BIOS turn off AUTO to skip a drive you know is not connected, it speeds it up a lot!! The RAM checking on Compaqs is much slower then on a Dell, it counts each MB in a second's time! On screen helpfully however.

I have one that shared a similar case to the GX110s, but it's more similar to the Dell GXa model, that one used a large tower and PCI/ISA riser along the bottom

  • i love beos. forever....: /

  • LOL, I got a Dell Optiplex GX1 someone gave me (they were going to throw it out ) Using as a web server ! Also downloaded BeOS 5 Personal ... :)

  • @john8520 hit space

  • @tsm32383 If you change the setting in the CMOS to not skip compatibility tests, it will be slow, otherwiseit is very fast.
