Coiling a rope in such a way that you can use it for a backpack. The butterfly is a real quick simple method of coiling up your rope so that you can transport it and keep your hands free. Although the McKay method id prefered for mountaineering travel when you are constently changing rope lenghts this method works better in general for everyday use. If you are going to become a proper mountaineer you have to learn all the methods anyhow.

  • I looked it up and that is a square knot, a reef knot is tied resulting in a bight at the end allowing for a quicker release... You learn something new every day!

  • Thats a different name for the same knot...

  • he tied a reef knot

  • you tied a square knot at the end, not a clove hitch
