@Cionaodh57 Al-Qaeda doesn't have anything on Abe Lincoln.

@bazzatheblue Yep-northern imposed union. Funny that. The USSR can dissolve and nations like Georgia can go independent, but Southern states are forced to stay in the union at the point of the bayonet. Southern War dead was 260,000 men, women and children, for that union.

@Cionaodh57 haha true.oh well never mind,it all worked it in the end.The British and Irish are now kind of friends. And the Queen visited that country a week or two ago,and very successful it was.I hope it bodes well for the future.Meanwhile the south still is a part of the northern imposed union.Though most are happy with that i think?!

@teenflunkie Read about how Sherman advanced against the Confederate right flank (north side) at Missionary Ridge and see if you don't reconsider those ill spoken words. General Patrick Cleburne's men manned that flank, and Sherman's army vastly outnumbered Cleburne's division. It didn't go well for Sherman's boys; many many blue coats died for nothing.

@RomaVictor14 Not true. That's why we have the "Geneva Convention" statutes to rule against barbarity in warfare between civilized nations. Prior to the Geneva Convention, however, there was an unwritten code of Christian Gentleman of Honor that warfare would not be waged against non military persons or objectives. Lincoln and Sherman both violated that code.

@martinwellborne That is a good exposition of the British attitude toward the Irish and Scots. The Irish and Scots are barbarian and deserving of servitude in that view. And many said the Irish could never win against the British, except when they did.
-
@farmerne The Irish lost, continually, for over 700 years to the British. 700 years! And still they fought till they achieved their independence. No nation's or crown's claim to territory was more secure than was Britain's to Ireland. Even a Pope had given the "crown of Ireland" to an English king. Suggesting that southerners should merely "get over it" belies a belief that a conquered people can become conquered in spirit. Eventually though the human spirit prevails, and tyrants are beaten.

@bazzatheblue True enough, and my 2d great grandfather's generation were eager for the fight once the fight was a sure thing.
-
@24michiganironbrigad They did their duty. They truly fought bravely. And they died for nothing.

@Cionaodh57 indeed southerners make good cannon fodder for northern industrialists to use.
Nathan Bedford Forrest, founder of the KKK. Nice.
