As a so-called Puerto Rican, i tell you from experience, alot of Puerto Ricans deny/refuse to identify with their African/Taino roots. I remember my family telling me i had bad hair. It wasn't untill i grew older that i decided to embrace my natural hair and grow locks. This sickness permeates all spanish speaking countries.. My wife is Ecuadorian. She was the darkest in her family. She told me how they made fun of her because of her beautiful brown skin. She now embraces her natural color.
