O Sensei wasn't a monk. Actually the moves demonstrated here derive from earlier forms of Jutsu, predating Jiu Jutsu and Judo. Notice also, that, unlike those earlier forms, and their more violent offsprings, such as Ninjitsu, BJJ, and MMA, the person taking the fall, and submitting to the techniques, is able to get up unharmed. The true aim of aikido techniques, and which differentiates it from Combat forms of defence is to protect and preserve all life.
Actually, Aikido comes from Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu, which is a form of Jujutsu. The difference is that Daito-Ryu teaches strikes as well as throws and grappling.
mma is a mixture of martial arts not the 'true art', you sound like you have been in that mma cage too long and taken too many hits to the head. :) enjoy!
Children, children, you ALL sound like the echoes of the playground. Grow up, look at your self and your comments. This is adult behavior? A master or pupil or even a fan discussing matters of skill in this manner? Watch the video and enjoy it,,doesn't seem that bad to me, but then I coach boxing, where we respect every sport.
For curiosity, i saw steven seagal with one move throwing in the air chuck lidell about tree years ago, in one demonstration. After he fell down, chuck was not able to get up again.
