The Sentinels of the Tomb of the Unknowns

The Tomb of the Unknowns (also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier) is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and in any weather by Tomb Guard sentinels. Sentinels, all volunteers, are considered to be the best of the elite 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), headquartered at Fort Myer, Va.

  • i don't know if i'm just saying this because i'm a soldier, but i do believe that this might just be the most intense discipline i've ever seen of any branch from any country. we train our boys right!

  • I really do believe this must be one of the greatest places in the Army to go ... to guard a piece of the very memory of the men who never came home, and to be so squared-away. Their very discipline is astonishing, to stand so still, to never relax at their post, to wear such a heavy uniform, I hold them in the highest regard.

The Old Guard ... let them forever remain vigilant at their posts and never be anything less than who they are.

  • Es erscheint einem aus deutscher Sicht etwas Robotermäßig. KOmisch was das mit Schneid zu tun haben soll...

  • @atheist6in6a6foxhole I could watch that gun twirling FOREVER!!! SUPER COOL!!!

  • @wunderboy64 they get yelled at! lol there are a few videos of stuff like that around here!

  • What would happen to a person if they are not quiet?

  • My brother-in-law is a tomb guard

  • @FSXMASTER223

Of course they get paid, just not any more than any other person in their pay grade. They probably do get a larger uniform allowance.

  • I'm in the Marine Corps and after watching the "Changing of the Guard", this guy next to my asked if the guards get paid, and I said "No", it's a national honor to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  • I saw this in August 2005. Awesome experience.
