Of course they get paid, just not any more than any other person in their pay grade. They probably do get a larger uniform allowance.

I'm in the Marine Corps and after watching the "Changing of the Guard", this guy next to my asked if the guards get paid, and I said "No", it's a national honor to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

i don't know if i'm just saying this because i'm a soldier, but i do believe that this might just be the most intense discipline i've ever seen of any branch from any country. we train our boys right!

I really do believe this must be one of the greatest places in the Army to go ... to guard a piece of the very memory of the men who never came home, and to be so squared-away. Their very discipline is astonishing, to stand so still, to never relax at their post, to wear such a heavy uniform, I hold them in the highest regard.
The Old Guard ... let them forever remain vigilant at their posts and never be anything less than who they are.
