That is because his family immigrated to the US in the 80's. So he does not have a accent.

I would also like to hear about data back-up. Why would anyone take that out?

Aw man! We didn't get to see his comments on data loss and backups! The computer nerd in me really wants to hear what Markus had to say about data backups, he's so good at communicating his thoughts in this interview that I bet he had some really valuable insight on data loss and future-proofing so that we can still be listening to his (and other) great works of art long into the future.
