This is the original recording by Reg Hill of his composition "The Buck Fever Rag". It is from his album "Ottawa Valley Hoedown", Banff RBS 1190, c.1964. Many fiddlers have played this piece but very few play it true to how Reg did. Reg was a member of Mac Beattie's Ottawa Valley Melodiers and Mac can be heard on washboard here.

  • There aren't many tuned I haven't come across in over 40 years of fiddling, but I don't think I have encountered this one before. I really enjoyed it.

  • I always loved his tune called Sleigh-ride Reel.

  • Harry Butt

my ears say that Reg Hill is the best fiddler an the maritimes

  • @glassxeyes Reg Hill is a distant relative of mine, originating from Collyton, Devon, England, our common ancestors were John and Mary Hill! The name stayed in our family till my dad's generation!

  • Hard to keep still listening to this...

  • Garney Scheel was my Grandfather and it is nice to hear the Ottawa Valley music on youtube!!!

  • Reg Hill was my grandfather, and it's great to see things like this online.

  • i thought i heard that jimmy mayhew was playing last week in ottawa, does anyone know for sure if hes still around. My favorite Reg Hill tune has to be Road to Fort Coulonge.

  • Jimmy Mayhew? Not sure but he could knock out every note the fiddle could. That was a great band and the steel guitar guy - Garney shields hmm I forget. thx

  • go to White Lake to see Mac Beattie. Bonnie Beattie would sing a few songs. She was only 18 then. Reg sometimes played the bass and I was pretty in awe of him. What about the piano player. Jimmy
