This film of the Columbia space shuttle disaster was shot in Richardson Tx. Please understand that at the time of filming my brother in-law had no knowledge that the space craft was in trouble. I posted this because I feel it is important for people to know what happened on that sad day and to hear and understand the many reactions to such a horrible event. This was a very sad day in the history of the United States space program and should be remembered and the memory of the crew should be honored.

@clintonearlwalker I'll look at it for sure. The NASA site is incredible. You can go to the shuttle missions page and on to any particular mission. There is also a hefty report compiled some time after the Columbia mission that is interesting as much as a dissection of the culture of the time as the unremedied engineering faults.

@shakeAbooty88 The video is entitled "Columbia reentry video" uploaded by "nomie1961" if you haven't seen it.

@shakeAbooty88 Got ya, I found a very good amateur vid of this, it clearly shows Colombia shedding debris well before it gets to Texas. I just finished a cigarette, and came back in to look up the melting point of aluminum. Wiki said the leading edge of the wing was subjected to temps of about 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit at some periods.

@shakeAbooty88 Oh, and the construction was more aluminium than anything else.
Sorry.
