  • With the messages regarding the steam train getting priority over the passenger service, the passenger train was scheduled to call at Purley, Coulsdon South, Merstham and Redhill, the steam charter would of lost time if it was following it.

Mainline companies wouldn't time an express train behind a local or a freight train.

  • Great vid, although they are not all Brighton trains,

The first one (the 8 car on the Down Fast) would of been a Brighton fast, the second (the 4 car on the Down Slow) was a Horsham stopping train, and the third (on the Down Fast) would of been a Littlehampton / Eastbourne splitter.

  • @KINGANDCASTLE Umm, I'm just trying to be a tad humorous! Sorry you didn't see that

  • @KINGANDCASTLE Now theres nothing wrong with mk1s, There far better in my opinion.

  • steam shall always come first!

  • All trains break down, as well as the infrastructure itself. As far as freight goes, where practical, it is well worth bringing as much as possible onto the railway even if it means reducing a handful of off peak passenger services. The trouble is, they wouldnt want to run every day. The bottom line - Freight is worth it. Timetabled services are worth it. Unnecessary site seeing trips on the mainline that leave a trail of disruption behind them are not.. Stick to the Bluebell line..!!

  • The most bizarre incident I saw on a steam trip was on the Hogwarts Express from Paddington - Oxford.

Despite arriving at Oxford in full HP glory, complete with little wizards and Harry Potter look alikes, the platform announcer said, "This is the 10.30 to Paddington"

Several people tried to board the ancient red Mk1 carriages, oblivious to what was happening.

  • Yes but goods trains frequently fail at vital crossovers and cause great delays due to their length.
