IME dogs are happy to learn at 8 weeks and younger. I do not recommend removing them from their mother at this age however, unless that's unavoidable. They still have a lot to learn from their littermates and mother at 8 weeks. I haven't seen fear issues related to training because I use positive reinforcement. If the dog is afraid of the clicker it is fairly easy to get them used to it used in a pocket or behind your back and bring it out once the dog realizes what it means to you... treats!

I recommend treats that are single source and homemade. For example, boil a whole chicken and pull when cool. Freeze session-sized portions in a bag until ready to needed. Boil liver so it's easy to cut and dehydrate it. Avoid processed treats that have lots of preservatives etc. Soft treats work best IME. Most dogs need 3 "classes" of treats: 1-no distraction areas/easy task, 2-more distractions, 3-highly difficult w/distractions. You can use the treats as part of a meal to avoid overfeeding.

im a lil confused.. all the reading i have done says that the dogs brain isnt ready to learn until 8 weeks old, it will figure stuff out but 8 weeks is when it should b released from its litter.. and 8 weeks is when its first "fear period" starts, isnt there a chance that the puppy will freak out during training if something scares him?
