no 4 was bulit at berby by the LMS in 1947 it and sister engine no 53 were the last steam locos in railway company service in britain and ireland,no 4 was bought of NIR for £1200 in 1971

I've never really taken much notice of NI trains before. They look very LMS in design. Both the carriages and that 2-6-4 tank could have come straight from Crewe!

it must have been in 2003 because that train has wooden bodied carriages and they were banned on the mainline in northern ireland in 2004

No. 4 built at Derby, surely?
Was treated to No. 4 on full whack on the northbound Steam Enterprise on 9th August. GS&WR 0-6-0 No. 186 had brought it south in the morning, which was also a real treat.

Considering that the LMS owned and operated the Belfast-Londonderry line, and was as integral as the East Coast Mainline, that's no surprise. No. 4 was built in Crewe, and the carriages are a mix of LMS stock, and include a number that originally ran in England. You didn't know that? Shame on you!!! ;-)
