I truly wish that I had the strength to throw this man out of my house, but was I supposed to throw my mother out too? She's equally as homophobic. Umph, such a shame the things that we have to face.

THIS WEEK'S TOPIC:
As a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered person, what are some examples of discrimination, judgment and intolerance that you have experienced from people who you know? And, how did you manage to overcome that and change the hearts of minds of those people so that they now accept and embrace who you are?

  • That's a really disheartening story. Really messed up. I hope "Bob" ended up being alright.

  • @estari4life it really is..and at that time in my life I had no job and no direction so joining the military was my way of getting out of the Bronx and traveling around the world...and this was before the War started..so in a sense it felt like a sign for me to not join.I'm glad I didn't looking back... it really is sad that so many Gays and Lesbians are getting discharged still and we need all the man power we can get ..but I have faith the don't ask, don't tell policy will get overturn one day

  • @gilbertblaze I don't blame you at all. I couldn't imagine being a part of a group of people who systematically discriminated against me and those like me and those we love. Such a crying shame.

  • @RiverBirch1967 LOL! I concur!

  • @SuperDuperTracy Thank you!

  • @SydneyTinker You're right. Any oppression of any group of people is just one of the saddest sights in human history. One day we'll get it together and realize that harmony is what we're all seeking.

  • @CountryComesToTown Thanks Jim. Yeah, I can't believe that this "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is still in place. Someone left me a comment saying that it's just not an issue in the Canadian military and that a few generals are openly gay! Gasp! Can you imagine?

  • @PaintedRavensong You know, the funny thing is that he truly thought that he was justified in his actions and was totally surprised when he was FIRED! LOL...The way he told the story, you could tell that he believed that he would be promoted for what he did. Can you imagine if he had gotten away with that? SMH...so glad that justice prevailed in this case, and even happier that he's out of our lives FOREVER! (although my sis did have a baby by him...Ahhhhhh!, that's another story...SMH)

  • @darklatios132 I like your attitude about this, and I totally agree. Even if people like Tyronne don't change their homophobic views, then at least there are millions who will! I truly believe that the cup of life is half FULL! :-) Take care!

  • @depfox I feel sorry for people like that too, my mother included. It's like the older I get, the more compassionate and understanding I become of other people's intolerance, ignorance and judgment because when I allow myself to peel back the curtain, I realize that most of them are functioning with beliefs that didn't originally belong to them in the first place.
