LAHAINA, Hawaii — Tyler Thornton hit an off-balance 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, his second in the closing minute, to lift No. 6 Duke to a thrilling 68-61 victory over No. 14 Kansas for its fifth Maui Invitational title Wednesday night.

The Blue Devils and Jayhawks traded leads 16 times in a battle of basketball behemoths before Thornton unleashed his pair of 3s -- the first with 1:10 left, the second with the shot clock winding down.

Duke (7-0) remained undefeated at the Maui Invitational, running its record to 15-0. Mason Plumlee had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Ryan Kelly added 17 points.

Kansas (4-1) counterpunched with Duke until the end, when it couldn't stop Thornton -- even with a hand in his face.

Thomas Robinson had 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Jeff Withey had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Tyshawn Taylor had 17 points, but 11 of Kansas' 17 turnovers.

  • Booooooooooo

  • Oh yeah! I guess he did travel u retards but look at this. If u were watching the game live, they showed a replayed that, yes, showed curry traveling but also getting reached in on. The KU players were practically hugging the damn guy! Jesus Christ! Give me a break dumbasses!

  • The first part is a travel when Curry switches pivot feet but I don't see the travel with the jump stop. It looks weird because it is going sideways at the three point line instead of near the goal but it looks perfectly legal to me.

  • The no call travel still annoys me, but Tyshaun "Turnover" Taylor annoys me more. He's stepped up lately though.

  • I watched almost every game of this tournament and the refs SUCKED. Everyone was traveling like crazy and every time two players would brush up against each other there was a foul. just let them play for a little and if its not really a bad foul just let it go if you just called one.

  • @dab1432 Let's think about this. The travel is called and the ball goes the other way. KU then makes a "clutch" 3 and wins the game. Kansas fans expect their team to win EVERY game. While Tyshawn Taylor's turnovers was a letdown, KU always trusts the ball in his hands. Duke got lucky, and everyone knows it.

  • I think the title should be changed

"clutch" and "luck" are two different things

  • just so all you preppy ass duke people know curry traveled as he passed it to thorton for the winning shot. cheaters ha atleast ohio state worked you all over like some little girls

  • but duke fans... best bet you cant say this... he can make that shot again in a game... you cant say that and you know it... just know its logical... im not taking anything from duke but admit it

  • if K.U. or actually tyshawn woulda never hit 10 turnovers, like if he had 9, K.U. woulda won, the last 2 turnovers decided the game. tyshawn's 10th turnover, k.u. woulda had a chance but after tyshawns 11th. that was the game. and thorton was the luckiest guy in the world. look how he shot @ 1:11. you know he jus threw that shit up. if K.U. played duke again this year... Duke would lose because K.U. doesnt lose to the same team twice in a season. and duke fans. im not hatin on yall. duke is good
