Your first problem is that you didn't read carefully what I wrote. I quoted Websters College Dictionary (which was itself quoted in The Free Dictionary). Webster's College Dictionary is an accepted source of definitions, and it DOES have that definition. So you are seriously confused here.

Your second problem is that you didn't read the conversation carefully. All the points you've made have already been responded to, and I'm not interested in repeating myself. So, again, you're confused.

Your first problem is you use the free dictionary. Merriam-Webster which is the standard dictionary doesn't have that definition. Secondly, Oz wasn't a remake of Wizard of Oz, it was a prequel to it. It's not ironic because it was her favorite movie so of course if somebody was making a new movie based on the story she would be interested in it. If she hated the Wizard of Oz, & wanted nothing to do with it but went to the audition anyway and she got the role that would be ironic.

And the main thing about irony that you don't seem to get is that it has several definitions.

    From Webster's College Dictionary:

    1. of, pertaining to, containing, or characterized by irony or mockery: an ironic smile.

    2. using or prone to irony.

    3. coincidental; unexpected: "It was ironic that I was seated next to my ex-husband at the dinner."
