  • why did you try and cut a bearing faced surface on a lathe? why not have them ground?

  • @luvyouinmouth I could have but I didnt have a way to machine grind it at that time.

  • I never put the trans in the car ended up selling the car and after that I sold the trans on ebay. Several months after I sold the trans the new owner called me asking about swapping a wiring harness he said the trans was shifting great at the time.

  • Subaru didn't make a US 5MT 4.44 when this mod was done they didn't offer it in the US till some years later. At the time they did manufacture a car with a 5MT 4.44 but only in japan only with very limited production numbers and i am thinking it was the 22B and the Jap spec RS.

    thanks for looking

  • Any reason why you did not just buy a 4.44 gear set out of a Forrester XT? The Subaru sit shows it at $279 for ring and pinion. Believe me, i am a fan of doing my own machining and fabrication as you can see from my page, but to me this is risky for the amount of force and shock going through it. I am in the middle of trying to get the components to convert a pull style clutch 4wd transmission to a 4.44 ratio FWD only configuration for my beast for this race season.

  • I'm interested to know how many miles you have put on this gearbox with the new pinion gear?
