We, the Hau'oli Haula Studio (Shinjuku, Kamakura, Fujisawa and Shichirigahama) performed during the Hawaiian Festival 2009 in Odaiba/Japan.
Here I dance "Palehua".
Mahalo nui to the audience - it was a pleasure to share this hula to you!

Lyrics by Amy Hanaialii Gilliom, Music by William Kahaialii, 1998.
This song was actually inspired, composed and recorded right in Palehua. This one morning was absolutely incredible, she recalls. Once the fog parted, everything became so clear. Willie K composed the melody using a custom slack-key tuning. If you listen closely, you can hear little birds in the background, Gilliom says. We actually went outside the studio and recorded in the bushes.

This mele received the "Na Hoku Hanohano" award for the best song in 1999.

"Palehua"

E kahea mai ana
'O Palehua e
Wahi lani ha'upu ia'u
E poina 'ole
Ke kuahiwi kaulana
Wehe i ka lani

'O ka wahi ki'eki'e loa
'O Palehua e
E pa mai ana ka makani
I ka ulu nahele
Ulupuni makou
I ke 'ala palepiwa
'Auhea wale ana 'oe
'O Palehua e

Ha'ina 'ia mai
Ana ka puana la
E kahea mai ana
'O Palehua e
Ke kuahiwi kaulana
Wehe i ka lani
'Auhea wale ana 'oe
'O Palehua e

Calling to me
Is Palehua
A heavenly place
Unforgettable
Famous mountain
Unveiled to the heavens
Hear my call
Oh Palehua

The most majestic place
Is Palehua
Breezes blow gently
In the forest
Surrounding us with the
Fragrance of eucalyptus
Hear my call
Oh Palehua

Let the story
be told
Calling to me
Is Palehua
Famous mountain
Unveiled to the heavens
Hear my call
Oh Palehua
