The most famous city in the world, New York City, was actually names after James II. It was changed from New Amsterdam to New York after James, then the Duke Of York. distinguished himself in battle. The land changed hand was renamed in his honor.

and been attacked for it by historians ever since.

Not true, he was not hot-headed.
-
his only problem was that he was hotheaded-and Catholic; the latter is allright if you were living elswhere, but not restoration Britain.

Meh this is mostly Whiggish manipulation of history to facilitate the creation of a plutocracy, rather than a tradition aristocratic state. Prince Charles is a good man, some Marxists are told by the media to dislike him because he stands up for tradition in cultural spheres against the Frankfurt School idealogues.

ah James II, flew in the face of a staunchly anti catholic parliament in order to achieve toleration for catholics. Sure go ahead and alienate the men who traditionally held up the sanctity of monarchy in favour the Whigs who had tried to exclude you 5 years before hand

We have a similar situation in Britain today. Just as a sizeable percentage of Englishmen wanted to EXCLUDE James, Duke of York, from succeeding Charles II to the crown, a sizeable percentage of Englishmen today wish to exclude Charles, Prince of Wales, from succeeding his mother, Elizabeth II and for the same reasons: because Charles is immoral and inept.
He believed in toleration for men and women of all faiths.
He was actually a man beyond his own time.
