P-51 Mustang by Hanger 9 is now done and running with a RCGF 15 cc gas engine. Didn't have to add weight, balanced perfectly!

  • Guys be very carefull on landing with the RCGF 15cc in! Don't get me wrong it's a brilliant engine for the money. I put the same engine in my bird and with regard to the all up weight to power ratio I found the RCGF 15cc not enough. She flew, landing was tricky and on 5th flight tip-stalled (Saved her though - minor damage to left retract) also I found aerobatics were pants with it in, she reacted like a slug with wings :D that day bought a Satio125 and its the best aeroplane in the world!!!

  • @TY1990ish Thanks for the update - I haven't flown it a bunch because the power just isn't there. I realize its scale and all...but shit! I will be installing a more powerful engine in the very near future.

  • Hi I am in virtually the same position with the rcgf 15cc in the blue nose, I am running mine in a little before i try a flight, Plus i was hopeing you'd fly yours before me to get rid of a bit of my nervousness :-) i'll stick a few vid of mine on. they really do look great. Oh, do you have to run yours with the choke fully open all the time? i do.

  • @nellies2901

No, choke only for the first 20 seconds...then I'm OK.

  • Wow, it looks and sounds great. Let's see the maiden flight!!!! What prop are you using, and do you know how many RPM you are getting at max throttle?

I am building a Top Flite Mustang and want to put my RCGF 15cc on it. Having a hard time with the spacers though, as the prop washer needs to be almost 6 inches from the firewall.

  • @RCKenpilot

I used washers between the standoffs and the engine to adjust for cowling spacing. Max RPM was 6700 (used RPM meter).

  • guys dont make mistakes ! I would never fly this airplane. I have the same p51 and I must tell you that is hard to take off, flying too, with RCGF 20 (prop 16/6)!

I crash airplain because of low power at first flying! Now I`m trying with 17/8 but now the engine turn only 3700 RPM what is not enough.

Looks I`ll have to buy now rcgf 26 but I`m not sure with weight.

Who suggest you RCGF 15! ??? , let him think again!

    good luck

  • just so you know NELLIES2907 choke is the back closed, when its open is where it runs at

  • Looking good just completed the maiden on mine with the FG-20 stop by have a look ..Sweet..

  • muito show seu mustang

    parabens!!

  • Got mine running perfect, unfortunately even flying off a concrete runway i think she didn't have enough power with the 15cc in, my left wing seemed to stall at about 6ft up, it tucked under & in she went, so be very wary dude, if you don't think she's got enough power make sure you have enough run off so you don't haul her into the air. Good luck

  • Have you done any thrust tests to see how many pounds of thrust you get at takeoff power? Can't wait to see the maiden.
