At least eight people were killed as violent anti-government protests flared in Bolivia on Thursday, creating havoc in the natural gas industry and raising tensions with the United States.

The opposition demands greater autonomy and energy revenue and opposes plans by Morales, a former coca farmer and Bolivia's first indigenous president, to rewrite the constitution and distribute land to the poor.

The conflict stems from a power struggle between Morales and the governors of regions in eastern and central provinces with vast natural gas reserves and rich farmland.

    ...and Sonia isn't saying it like it is.

    The rich are the ones who are demonstrating.

    What can you do to poor peasants and their elected leader if they don't want to exchange their land, their lives, for cash, and our wonderful consumer goods?

    They don't want us, nor our way of life, Sonia.

  • Bolivia is trying to blame its internal problems on US - thats why they are teaming up with Venezuela (Chavez).

    By blaming US, he can divert attention of the people from the injustice done to them by his socialist ideas.
