Brent Harris in his 33 Willies Gasser at 2007 Port Alberni Thunder In The Valley. A couple burnouts and clips from both Saturday and Sunday. Duane Grosart's 55 Chev is a beauty too. The 55 wasn't running great as these two rivals, who are best friends, have at it.
Again, thanks to Carl Sexsmith and Phil Anker for the photos from the 2006 event used in this 2007 video footage.

  • that is one ghetto track

  • @nashvilleraidersfan

It's a fulltime airport that is turnded into a 1/4 mile race track once a year in August for the weekend. It has to be set up and broken down so the airport is functional that Sunday evening. It may look "ghetto" but it is great racing and the guys who turn out are awesome showmen. We have exhibition racers, doorslammers, right down to street class. 5-10,000 spectators enjoy it each and everytime it is held.

  • Hello everyone, for the 2008 Port Alberni Thunder in the Valley event they will feature that same Pro-Mod 55 Chevy (Duane Grosart)as this year's featured theme car for t-shirts and all advertising. Posters, rack cards etc. Look forward to seeing you all there this Aug 9-10 2008

  • That is one bad-ass motherfucker!

  • That thing could beat a ricer in reverse

  • @Draxindustries1 You're to fuckin' stupid to understand. Laugh all you want. When you grow up you'll know better - maybe. Right now, we're all laughing at you. By the way genius, shit isn't spelled with an 'e'.

  • @danf321 Absolutely! The gassers and altereds made drag racing. I'd do anything to turn back the clock and show people how drags used to be run - no 'brackets', no computer setups, no teams with their trailer full of spare engines, clutches, etc., etc. And most of all, 1320 feet.

  • @MrBeresford There's nothing 'getto' about it. This is the roots of Drag racing. I remember going to Half Moon Bay drag strip (airport) and watching Stone, Woods & Cook's '41 willeys when they were running A gas (I think). And Garlits going 200 in his 'swamp rat' while sitting behind the engine and over the third member. The Melrose missle, A '63 Plymonth with a 413 and ram induction - the original FX class. Cost a buck to get in. There were no pit passes. Once you were in, go anywhere.

  • That made my wiennie hard.

  • I never tier of this clip first saw it 2 years ago.

  • @zeppelin67637 Yeah quite possible, they liked the car so much they asked the owners to make a matchbox out of it, ive seen a couple of them

  • I think I had that car in my matchbox collection!

  • Kick Ass Car! These Willy's, along with Bantam roadsters, Anglia's, etc. are some of the best icons of drag racing. AA/F Funny cars are great, but sometimes they're too high-tech. As someone said, grass roots drag racing, and at it's best.
