This is a recording I made of just a section of Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd. I recorded this to illustrate some of the sounds possible using a Hiwatt DG-504 David Gilmour Signature Model.

**Check out www.myspace.com/clydermusic for a more rock application of this Hiwatt and other Equipment**

There really aren't many Hiwatt clips out there and I haven't seen any at all on this model.

I used a 1995 Limited Ed. Fender Strat, with a modded Boss CS-3 Compressor, and a Smart People Factory Ego Booster for the main guitar sound. I also used a modded Boss Blues Driver for the more driven sound at the end of the section.

The amplifier of course is a Hiwatt DG-504 and it is running through a Hughes & Kettner 2x12 loaded with Vintage 30's.

The mics I used are a Shure SM57 and a cheapo ribbon mic. It was recorded directly into Pro Tools where reverb was added. The reason I chose to record this way is so you can get a better idea of the sound. If I recorded with a webcam or something the sound would be horrible. Since the main purpose of this video is to highlight the Hiwatt sounds, this makes sense.

The backing track was found gilmourish.com with the credit going to Andrea Torelli.

I only recorded the LEAD GUITAR. Nothing else.

PS - The guitar had old strings on it and the amp has way more bite to it that allows you to DIG IN when there is a fresh set of strings.

Also, since I suspect I might get a few criticisms - I wasn't performing to impress anyone, just wanted to share the sounds. Also, the pedal board is not permanently wired, it's a mess!

Thanks, and if you have any suggestions maybe I'll upload some other clips.

  • make sure rear mic is out of phase with the others

  • @Obelisk2290 Thanks. There is no rear mike. It's a closed back cabinet.

  • Man, this is really nice. But those Boss overdrives... are junk. I have them both. If you want some serious stuff, try one of these: w.w.w(dot)vhrelief(dot)com/products/. I've got the 666 model. Totally awesome. Waaaay better than those Boss'. It's by our Czech maker. He cares about every piece. No damn chinese factory.

  • @zeppelinn Sounds great thanks. Note however, that I modded my Boss pedals and they do keep up with the boutiques now. Stock are frigged though!

  • did you put the amp on clean then boost with boss sd1??

    what pickups are used??

    very nice sound my friend!!!

  • @darrylportelli Thanks a lot! From what I recall I used my Blues Driver to boost the tone slightly towards the end.

  • @blarghwastaken GIlmour uses boss pedals and I dont think you could complain about his tone... and tons of guitarists even famosu guitarists used plexis for example, does that make them Hendrix copycats? I dont think so

  • Excelent cover man !!

  • That head with those Boss pedals? Doesn't make a lot of sense. Hope you're in a Pink Floyd cover band. Otherwise, trying to imitate a popular guitarist's tone is something you should've grown out of at age 16.

  • @Clyde67 souns good and ambient mic a couple feet away will make it fatter

  • Perfect Gilmour tone man!

  • @Clyde67 I see! Good for you then! Rock on!
