Sarah's personal mistake was, being so in love with the idea of fame/power/stardom, she did not see that she was held up as the sacrificial lamb, to stir up and endure controversy, to do dirtywork and take heat, and later to be the campaign's own scapegoat.
McCain's concession speech had an interesting line about how he was solely to blame. This seemed a generous attempt to take blame off her, since his naive willingness to overlook her faults was his error-- his judgment yielded to emotion.

I sincerely hope that the Republicans do pick Sarah Palin to run in 2012, because there's no way in hell that she could ever win a national election. The Republicans made a huge mistake by pandering to the fringe elements of their base, the lunatic religious extremists, the ignorant yokels. These people are not "real" Americans, they're fringe nutballs.
If the Republicans keep pandering to these loons, they'll never win again. So by all means, please, let them keep it up. :)
