More political pressure on China and statements by medal-winners in the 2008 Olympics are needed to get China to change its policy on Tibet, says Maria Martens, Dutch christian-democrat member of the European Parliament and member of the Tibet Intergroup at the parliament.
There are millions of problems the world over. Problems of Xizang ethnic minorities (Tibetans) are no different than others in Palestine, Iraq, Africa, Asia, Americas. etc. They should try solving them themselves instead of bothering others. Ask themselves why it happened to them. Why?

This is a mess.
I think that the EU should not trade with China, because it is important not to undermine corporate investors and their out-soucing activities, particulary those supporting Amerikan interests.

The protestors have a point.
They cary signs that say,"WAKE UP EU"!
I'm also sick of anti-communist and anti-socialist propaganda! That the EU purges Europe of socialist ideas IS the problem. The EU is PROFIT over people. Fascists always have accomplished that best, thus, the present face of the EU.

China and the USA ARE two of the worst superpowers in the world. The EU should longer trade with either.
Boycotting all Westerns investors in China would be a start.
That would leave many "affluent" countries with banning global trade all together.
Europe is in crisis, but these protests will take our minds off those issues.
But ultimately I am as critical of China as the Dali Lama himself...as we all should be.
Also, why doesn't Palestine have such a strong lobby?
Or the Kurds?

Not in the long run, no.
But for now it has proved quite useful... to some.

whc007 - with respect, to seek to justify the obscene behaviour of China relative to Tibet and the needless slaughter of Tibetans by the Chinese occupational military in the context of America in the mid 1800s, when China was ruled in abject poverty and terror by war lords, is both foolish and dishonest.
That China has over many years practiced cultural genocide in Tibet and has imported Chinese peoples from the starving provinces to the North is a matter of record and irrefutable historic fact

neverlandtkj - your complete la ck of self control, AND you lack of any understanding of physical possibilities would lead me to believe that you are far from worthy of any attention beyond medical - is your care assistant aware that you have managed to get access to the keyboard and overcome the parental controls?
One is forced to wonder if you are a Tibetan deliberately trying to make the Chinese and their supporters look unstable, dangerous and in need of control.
Please clarify.
