This was what I call my rough draft video for my honors english class presentation. I know I made a lot of mistakes and did not find anything valuable which is why I made a completely new video that may be posted sometime in the near future. Any advice would be great!

  • i just got a mxt 300. my sister works at whites so i got one from there. have found a few cool things in my back yard and a handfull of coins at a local park including 1 silver dime and 1 silver quarter. i am gonna try 4202civic tip about turning up the descriminator so i can stop digging so many pull tabs lol

  • @indianajohn11

Congrats! The more you use it, the more you'll love it! Atleast, that's how it was for me.

Those pull tabs get annoying after a while with the MXT 300. Just keep in mind that tuning out

the pull tab range can also very easily eliminate any chance at finding some gold rings. Which i'm sure you know...but that's why i'm hesitant to use heavy discrimination. Haha, I'll leave the hunting site wondering whether or not I walked over a ring or jewelery piece of some sort:).

  • I bought a whites MXt the other day . Its my 1st Detector. I had found a Scabbard for a sword made of copper while I was deer hunting. This gave me the bug to buy one and search the area. I did find a minnie ball , 10 " axe head and a pocket knife in the area. So far I am happy with the MXT . I am a novice by far and I am learning as I go .I have found many 100 year old shot gun shells . Im going to hunt an area close that i think was a cannon site. Thanks for the Video

  • @Claretcross

Glad to hear your having fun with it:). It's a great detector by one of the best manufacturers in my opinion. Just keep digging. Your bound to find something nice sooner or later. That cannon site sounds interesting! Thanks for watching:).

  • @AdamMoto I grew up North of Vicksburg . I still deer hunt there. Grant had 70,000 troops when he besieged the city in 1863. The confederates had 40,000 troops. There are still a lot of relics in the area. Luckily I have access to a lot of areas.I found a .69 minie the other day that is a chunk of lead . A friend said they were called Flying Pumpkins by the Yankees !

  • @Claretcross

That's awesome that you have access to these historical sites! I know there are many places I'd love to hunt but am not allowed. Keep hunting that site:)! Relics carry the most history and there have to be a bunch left over from the troops.

  • @AdamMoto Had a great hunt Thursday. It was uneventful til I hit an old house site that was only marked by wild onions on a ridge deep in the woods . It was saturated with square nails. I finally am getting familiar with the discriminator . I dug up 5 , 3 ringer minie balls and 1 enfield minie. My buddy dug 2 minies , one being a Gardner and one Hoshkiss shell. I love this MXT.

Your comment is very true. I originally made this video as a demonstration for my English class for my presentation on Treasure Hunting. At the time, I was very new to the hobby and had only a few months experience with the detector. It does take a while to learn. The only reason I dig mostly everything is because pull tabs come up in the same range as some gold rings. The key is like you said to turn the discrimination back down and look between the trash for the good stuff:).

  • It took me a year, many trips, and friends showing me how to use my MXT before I got to where I feel reasonably proficient with it. Those that are finding mostly trash is because that's what you are looking for. Turn the descrimination up and look only for the easy rewards, then when you get good at recognizing what the detector is telling you, turn the descrimination back down and look between the trash for the really good stuff.
