Tsunami warning sirens in Honolulu and across the state of the Hawaii sound regularly as a potential tsunami wave approaches the islands. Here in Mililani in central O'ahu, the roads are clear as the 1:15 a.m. siren sounds, and only crickets follow.
This is not something I remember from my days as a Waikiki kid in the '70s. When the missus and I were in Hilo on vacation this past January, we about jumped out of our skins when the sirens went off! Yet nobody seemed particularly alarmed, so we figured it was a test. Still, it seemed to go on forever, and kept us a little nervous until we confirmed what it was. =0[.]o=
