  • @lasicnotemo They look at him, either with peripheral vision, or with quick glances when they know he's going to do something dramatic (with the tempo, or otherwise). Most of the conductor's work is done in rehearsal, behind the scenes, balancing the dynamics of the players, suggesting how to phrase and articulate musical ideas, etc. After that is accomplished a great orchestra can run on auto-pilot, but the nuances that make a great performance would be lost w/o direction.

  • @lasicnotemo Don't try understanding how conductors work.You will get nowhere. :P

  • oooh ich liebe bartók ohnehin... was für eine wundervoll kraftvolle interpretation! balsam für die ohren

  • Do I spy Ori Kam in the viola section???!! Did not know he was in the Berlin Phil. -- Awesome!

  • We refer to the string section as strings. Sometimes 'strings' can mean string orchestra just not so accurate.

    Btw, Guy rocks!

  • I love this.

However, I still don't understand the conductor. No one ever looks at him. He just annoys me, yes I know that he probably is indeed vital, and No I am not myself in any kind of orchestra, so I don't truly understand, but he still annoys me.

  • is a string orchestra the same as just saying "strings"? Anyone?
