A shelf cloud that passed over my house one Saturday evening. This was part of a cold front that moved through the area. All calm before, winds reached 55 MPH gusts as it passed. City nearby sounded tornado sirens but really no funnel cloud was spotted. THIS IS NOT A WALL CLOUD!! Shelf clouds and Wall clouds are often confused. Wall clouds are the ones that may spin off a tornado because of its internal rotation. This storm that passed was just part of a bow echo which makes sense with the strong winds. As it approaches, warm air is being lifted while cold air behind it is slicing under it. Yes that is a Davis Weather Station pictured...

  • Beautiful...and a sight for sore eyes (if you're a storm lover like me and got tired of the "blah-grey" skies of winter).
