Solar will be king within 5 years. We've just figured out how to basically print and/or make solar cells from plastics and other very cheap abundant materials. A number of companies have hit or are about to hit the $1/watt peak capacity mark which makes them competive with fossil fuels for most homes if the installation price is amortized. The only thing to do now is to wait for the companies to ramp up these new techniques which they're now doing at a frantic pace.

I think solar power is our strongest resource... however, god forbid we lose access to the sun... it's happened... we better have a backup. I like wind and hydro power as those backup sources. I agree with you in that it should be a combination, as well as it should become more localized.
The point about utilisation of land is not how much land is being utilised but whether that land is being used for its most productive function. Is it really best to grow biofuels when food would get a better return?

Good thought. When asked like that... I would say food production is a better return. I think most alternative fuels are aware of this and they are leaning away from biofuels... cosidering food shortages in the near future.
