This Air France Jumbo Jet Airbus 380 Flight 007 hit Delta Connection Flight Comair Flight 6293 at JFK Airport in New York at around 8:15 pm on April 11, 2011. Here is the video. I removed the logo and corrected the aspect ratio.

"(CNN) -- An Air France Airbus 380 clipped a smaller plane while taxiing to the runway for takeoff from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to CNN's Jim Bittermann, who was on the Air France flight headed to Paris.

Bittermann said that he felt a slight rumble -- akin to hitting a patch of rough pavement -- as his plane was moving on the ground Monday at about 8:15 p.m.

The pilot then stopped the aircraft, which is regarded as the world's biggest passenger jet, and eventually fire department crews surrounded it and the other plane.

The tail of Comair Flight 6293, a Delta Connection flight that had recently arrived from Boston, was struck by the Air France aircraft while waiting to park at the New York airport, said Delta spokeswoman Betsy Talton.

When the Airbus abruptly flicked the smaller plane, it appeared to turn at roughly a 45-degree angle, according to amateur video of the incident.
Passengers describe plane collision

"Send a truck. They just hit us," the pilot of the smaller jet calmly called out to controllers over the radio, according to a recording of airport radio traffic on the website liveatc.com.

Looking out the window, Bittermann could see that the last foot or so of the Airbus 380's left wing had been damaged. The other plane also suffered some damage.

"You could see the part of the 380's wing hanging down from the horizontal stabilizer of the Delta jet," he said, having seen the damage firsthand from a seat on the larger plane's left side.

There were no injuries, said a spokeswoman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who declined to give her name.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified about the incident, and Port Authority police detectives were interviewing the pilots of both aircraft, the Port Authority spokeswoman said.

Those on the Comair flight were later able to get off the plane normally, according to Talton.

The Air France Flight 007 originally had been scheduled to take off at 7:15 p.m. for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, according to that airline's website. But, after the incident, it turned around and all its passengers deplaned and picked up their baggage at the New York airport.

Bittermann described passengers' mood aboard that flight as relatively light-hearted and calm, after the pilot alerted them of what happened.

"People started making jokes," he said, while waiting to pick up his bags in New York. "But I think the jokes will stop when they start finding out that they may be stuck here for a while.""

  • The A380 IS a Jumbo Jet, Super Jumbo Actually.

  • It's not a jumbo jet u dump ass it's a a380

  • @Norseflyer Erm,,,,it was an AMERICAN airliner that left a piece of metal behind on the runway that caused Concorde to crash,,,,

  • Another reason not to fly Air France, these guys have performed dismally from a incident perspective the last couple of years... starting with the Concorde!

  • Best pop a CV in the post to AirFrance. could be a few job openings!!

  • Dam. Scary.

  • @GreenTigerCA It just depends on exactly where and what the damage is and whether or not a individual section of the wing can be replaced. It varies from aircraft to aircraft and case by case. At the very least, in going through its repairs, it will have to be completely torn apart and inspected. Either way, they definitely have a mess on their hands!

  • @GreenTigerCA That would have been a different airplane for the A380 to give way to, not the Comair. The Comair wasn't opposite direction traffic. I would like to hear the audio and see the video at the same time to try to piece together what happened. Either way, if the Airbus was merely taxiing, he was going way too fast. 10 knots maximum in a congested area. In that video he looks like he's going 20+ knots.

  • @jumboJetPilot The controller said for him to "Give way to opposite traffic at Kilo Delta"

That dumb French pilot must have thought he said to "Bitch slap that Delta plane." :-)

  • @jumboJetPilot I dunno man, I was just watching the "Making of" show on Discovery and when they were building those wings they would trash them for the slightest defect. I cant imagine they would try to just repair it on the plane. With that size plane I wouldnt want anything less than perfect.
