Giacomo Puccini wrote the opera "Turandot" in 1924. It is based on a story by Scheherezade, the well-known Persian Queen and the story teller of the "One Thousand and One Nights". The story is about a Persian prince and Chinese Princess. "the Mountains of the East" is in the Act #1. The same melody briefly reappears in Act #2 ("Gloria, gloria, o vincitore!") and Act #3 (Principessa divina!").
