Yep, I remember the D-5 from '85-'86. My first was a Panasonic in July of '86.
It didn't sound too good, kind of a ringing midrange.

@gli7utubeo My dad bought the Sony D-5 that year- the first ever portable CD player, since it was also cheaper than any other on the market to date.
