Nick's POV
The papparazzi were all over me and Gaby through New York. It was unbelieveable. I was becoming seriously frustrated, this wasn't the romantic gesture I had hoped for. Eventually, I decided to suggest eating in a cafe', away from the curious paps, so we could finally talk. I had a certain subject in mind.
"I don't know how you deal with that everywhere you go." she laughed.
"You kinda get used to it. I'm sorry that I dragged you into it though." I stated. "I didn't realise they'd find us."
"It's hard not to notice you guys. Walking around together, arriving on a private jet. You might as well carry a bullhorn celebrating your arrival." she joked.
I loved her laid back attitude. It made what I was about to say easier.
"I think....I'm ready to discuss my girl problems." I sighed.
She looked at me alarmed, her eyes wide. I knew I'd have to discuss this with her to be able to move our relationship to the next level. Which is where I was aiming.
"I told you I'd be listening. Continue." she urged.
"Riley Stevens. I met her backstage at a concert 4 months ago. I thought it was the best night of my life." I sighed, remembering how I felt.
*Flashback*
Who was this girl? She stood awkwardly, staring at her feet while humming a familiar tune. Nick J Is Off The Chain. My song! Kevin and Hayley departed leaving a painful silence between the four of us remaining. Then she said it.
"Your hair looks really curly."
I remember the way her voice wavered as if she was debating wheather to state this fact. I laughed until my chest ached with the heaving and then continued some more. This girl was so different, so un-predictable. I just knew I had to get to know her. I suggested seeing her again, but only Kevin retrieved a number. The day after, well actually it was that night on the tour bus, that I decided if I ever saw her again, then I had to confess my feelings. Let everything out.
Chances are the next time I saw her was the men's bathroom. Her mother had surprised them with more concert tickets and backstage passes. Riley was always getting herself into embarrassing situations, just her luck that she ends up in the men's bathroom exactly as me and my brothers walked in. She fell, obviously, and we discovered she was hiding from us. Typical Riley. I had known her one day and I felt like we were old friends. I forced myself to believe that with Kevin and Joe being here; it wasn't the best time to tell her how I felt. But, maybe it was the last chance I'd get. Later on, backstage, she broke the silence again, mentioning my curly hair. I had my first inside joke with her, and it felt amazing. Joe and Carson gave us both strange glances and left, while I gazed at her. We were alone. I seized the moment. I confessed how I felt, without mentioning my fully fledged crush, and she agreed to go on a date with me. I thought this was the best moment in my life, but the date turned out to be a nightmare.
*Flashback*
"So, that's how we met, and what endured." I chuckled. "On the date I ran into Miley and realised I still liked her. I think I was confused because, after I started dating Miley, my mind kept thinking of Riley. It's complicated." I stated.
"Doesn't sound like you've ever had it easy." She breathed.
"That's not even the half of it." I laughed.
"I'm listening." She assured.
"Once me and Riley were finally together my brothers started causing problems."
"What sort of problems?" she asked, curiously.
"There was the whole Kevin thing." I blurted, without thinking.
"What Kevin thing?" she asked once again.
"I really shouldn't mention it." I stated, shaking my head.
"Nick. She breathed. "You can trust me, I won't tell anything."
"Well Kevin and Hayley kind of." I suggested, focusing with my eyes, hoping she'd catch on. She didn't."Kevin isn't so pure anymore."
"Oh. Ohhh." she said, realising what I'd suggested.
"Then when he walked in on me and Riley having some fun he went psycho."
"So, you're not a either?" she asked.
"Yeah, I am." I confirmed. "We were only fooling around, nothing major. But Kevin got mad."
"Hypocrite." She snorted.
"That's what I thought. At the time." I sighed. "But now I'm glad I waited, because Riley turned out to be a jerk. She cheated on me with her manager." I informed her.
"Manager?"
"She's a model. I ran into her in the airport and she let slip what had happened. Then I saw her again and she said he'd been abusing her. I didn't know what to do!" I wailed. "I panicked and brought her to my brothers, but then she said she'd been using me all along. Saying I was foolish and naïve." I winced as I remembered her harsh words.
"That must have been hard. I can tell you loved her." She sighed, hurt visible in her eyes. "And you still do." She smiled.
"What?" I asked.
