@Yamisgirl777, Well here's the thing, it's not "if".. it's "when".
And it's not hundreds of years from now, it's going to be here in just a couple decades. By the mid 2020s, or 30s at the latest, glasses like this will exist, and will be shockingly common.
Heck, researchers right now are working on video display CONTACT LENSES!
A lot of cutting edge work is being done right now, to bring the "Internet of Things" into the real world!
Smart phones have really boosted the progress of wearables.

dennou coil builds up its world and story for the first 16 episodes.
But if you thought the story was good uptill then... (or uptill episode 13 in any case) you havn't seen anything yet.
After episode 17 the story go's into a chargeup cycle of pure brilliance and keeps getting better and better till the very end where everything comes together and your left with the feeling that you've just seen one of those, once in a lifetime experiences that only a few things in life can give you.

It's based on an upcoming technology, "augmented reality".
We're already seeing this technology being used in smart phones and games consoles. The next step is to merge a portable pc into the glasses.
In the series, when they call something a "Dennou"-whatever, they mean things in the augmented realm. And yes, the whole thing is synchronized with a server/internet, that has semi-updated data about the whole physical world.
It's an amazing concept, and I can't wait for the real thing someday!
