Virtual cockpit demo for Freespace 2 Open

heres a scripted virtual cockpit. still highly experimental. the main bugs so far are an issue with the clipping plane on cameras (which are experimental), and also an inability to render anything to the hud.

i used trackir mouse emulation to control this camera, but it can be manipulated with a mouse or virtual mouse on a joystick (such as the one on the x52, or ch pro throttle). though id like to have native track ir support with 6dof movement.

right now aiming is rather diffiecult sence i dont have a fixed reticle. i made an auto-compensating reticle to work with this but i couldnt get it to render to the hud.

this is a proof of concept to show what has been done and what remains to be done.

do you stear the camara seperate from the ship? i would need a 3rd arm if you stear it with the mouse like freelancer xD

that was a crude track ir implementation. it has been rendered obsolete by native engine track ir support. essentially i was using mouse emulation, and a script to turn mouse coords into camera rotations.

im getting whacked around so much because of an error in the ships moment of inertia tensor. i only realised it after shooting at one while testing the cockpit in another ship.

im gonna post another soon now that i got my gunsight somewhat working.

Fantastic. Can you believe I've been waiting for FS2 cockpits since the day i first played the retail release? The bright boys at SCP have already done such incredible work, and there's more to come. Thanks Nuke.
