Here's an excerpt from the Blue Hill Troupe's staged reading of The Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta "THESPIS" Almost all of the music has been lost and it has been given a new life with an artful reconstruction with new music by Thomas Z. Shepard

  • Hi Rich, Good to hear your voice again back on the older side of the pond. And singing beautifully, as always!

  • Thank you very much for posting this. I may have to perform this as my next solo in vocal class. Very helpful. And you have a wonderful voice.

  • Great performances!!!

  • Great voice

  • This is one of the songs from Thespis that survived with Sullivan's music ("Climbing Over Rocky Mountain" from Act I was the other, transferred to Pirates of Penzance). I presume "Little Maid of Arcadee" was published because it could be lifted from Thespis and played outside of the context of the opera. Whereas "I Once Knew a Chap," for example, was too tied to the opera's plot to make it on its own.

These little bits of Thespis's original music are precious gems.

  • Hey, good stuff, Pete!
