Pakistan Foreign Minister on al Qa'ida and Extremist Threat

7/22/07 -- CNN/Late Edtition: Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, joins Wolf Blitzer to discuss current Pakistani military operations targeting extremists, the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) from a perspective of Pakistan and why he believes it would be a mistake for U.S. troops to enter the region.

Kasuri believes "Pakistan's commitment cannot be doubted by anybody" noting the 85,000 troops in the tribal areas previous to recent violence while adding that 2 new divisions were sent recently. On the recently released NIE he believes what is really needed is "actionable intelligence" and not items the media can wildly pursue "for the purpose of having an effect on American public opinion." In response to a possible U.S. strike inside Pakistan based on actionable intelligence, he states "what we can do, nobody can do better -- please share intelligence with us -- you will lose the battle of hearts and minds [otherwise]." Overall he believes the U.S./Pakistani relationship is very good, stating "all I would like to ask to you -- is for the American public to realize that Pakistan has been in the frontline -- it has suffered great casualties -- we would like those to be acknowledged."
