Billy Cox was NOT hendrix on bass, and Noel Redding wasn't awful. The reason Jimi played bass on many takes of several songs is because hendrix would obsess, do 40 takes and frustrate the hell out of noel who would leave because of the sheer amount of takes. Jimi and Noel never really got along, but Noel wasn't bad. Billy Cox however, did get along with jimi, although according to mitch in "inside the experience" they were planning on kicking billy out right before jimi's death.
