@fearguis Yes. But I've been working with Photomanipulation editing for a long while and I can tell you that the effect is not perfect. Even now.

Kirk's shadow passing across O'brien was impressive.

And Battlestar Galactica was doing its thing in 2003. It got better w/ time, like Enterprise, & now there are ads w/ things major feature films couldn't afford years ago. Caprica did robots as well as almost any movie I've seen. In a few years the tech will blow our minds. TV & movies will be indistinguishable after a while. This stuff will get cheaper and cheaper. Eventually, we won't even have to build real sets anymore. It's starting to happen now. Just wait & see. We'll all be amazed.

Forrest Gump was released in 1994. Trials & Tribble-ations aired in 1996.
In just two years, CGI rotoscoping & matching technology went from being a cutting-edge technique that was a big deal even for a Tom Hanks blockbuster, won the Best VFX Oscar, & cost tens of millions of dollars to something that could be used on a fairly low-budget syndicated science fiction series that usually aired Saturday or Sunday afternoons, got soft ratings, & was produced w/ a small fraction of the time & money.
