Michigan 4-H'er Nate Seese started showing livestock as part of his annual 4-H project and instead of auctioning off his animals in a public forum, he convinced local businesses to purchase the livestock and have them directly donated to a local meat pantry to feed hungry families. Nate also worked with a food processing center that started donating their time to process the meat for consumption.
Four years later, Nate's on-going project has gained corporate sponsors who donate animals and land to the 4-H project. To date, Nate has sold about 1,000 pounds of livestock. His project is even collecting down payments for future sales, as two local businessmen sent Nate a total of $575 for 2012.
