24 When a Man Loves a Q-tip 3/3

So here he is, in my mind the most controversial character in all of NGE. Screw the homosexuality debate (some pun intended, which I'll get to) I'm looking at this from a purely literary stand point. Am I to expect that this albino would have this profound of an affect on our protagonist with only twelve minutes total of screen time? There are those that would argue that it is because Shinji is so EMOtionally broken that any sort of kindness would open him up like a clam--I call shenanigans! As reclusive as Shinji is, it would only make sense in the context of his character that he would reject Kaworu's kindness and shy away from him, because let's face it, Whitey wasn't the only person who was ever nice to him. Nevertheless, Milky somehow has this massive impact on Shinji. It isn't believable, he should have been introduced much earlier in the series.

And an open letter to all the fangirls in favor of a Kaworu Shinji relationship, what are you thinking, how is that even remotely attractive? Two pencil necked chumps as pale as milk doing the nasty? Though I am straight and thus biased, I still try to see things from the other side, but I cannot by any stretch of the imagination conceive how this would be consider "hot." It's like fantasizing Rosie O'Donnel and Courtney Love getting together. Ew.

Also, what's up with all of the miles and miles of empty, useless space in NERV? It just seems to be an endless series of stairs with five hundred foot ceilings--a complex seemingly manned by about fifty people. Seriously, have you ever seen more than a handful of people at any one time during this show? All of the Japanese live like sardines while the fine people at NERV get no less than three thousand ballrooms worth of space. The bastards! But to be fair, they still have to sleep with blankets large enough to cover their crotches. How can you sleep like that? No wonder why everyone is so moody all the time.

I know it's too easy for the fangirls to write it off as homosexual love, but to me Kaworu is entirely different. He isn't even human, for one thing, and doesn't understand how humans work. That's why he's so up front with Shinji. Kaworu expresses a more pure form of kindness than humans can show. That's my opinion, anyway.

But, yeah Shinji's side of the relationship doesn't make any sense at all. XD

If you want two characters to be romantically involved, all you need is a few minutes of screen time and a little subtext. The point is that there was an emotional connection. Typically, fans just build off of that with head canon. Although I agree that its kind of strange for any pair to just randomly come and go so quickly....
