In the 60s, the TV hit Flipper made us all fall in love with dolphins. Rick O'Barry is the man who trained the dolphins to do the tricks that were so endearing — and that spawned a whole industry of sea worlds and marine worlds and flipperworlds around the globe, committing dolphins to a lifelong sentence of enslavement and humiliation, all in the name of our entertainment.

These days Rick O'Barry feels sickeningly guilty about that, and has spent decades since dedicated to freeing dolphins. That mission has seen him arrested all around the world, thrown into jail, banned from conferences and other venues.

But it has also seen him expose the most horrendous and senseless massacre of dolphins, an annual slaughter of 23,000 dolphins that takes place for several months every year in a tiny cove near a town called Taji in Japan.

  • whats the point in killing these dolphins

there is no benefit except for money

the meat is filled with high levels of mercury...

    its not even a tradition

  • let me just point out one thing about dolphins getting "stress"

how do they get stress is what your probably wondering...

they are stuck in a pool... surrounded by people... not hundreds.. but thousands of people... kids screaming... people laughing, walking, eating, knocking on the glass.... it is chaos if you were to record the sound.... unlike humans.. dolphins have different ways of receiving sound....

the sound is very stressful to the dolphin......

  • @lmfaopartyrock2 Believe what you like, I served in the military and with a team of others washed contaminated vehicles coming back from the war... I tested highly radioactive and suffering so. WE washed that radioactive crap into the waters of Karlsruhe Germany. Then that and other bases abandoned. Watch my DU radiation playlist... What Erin Brockavich discovered for chromium 6.. many are discovering ATOMBOMS disguised as power plants. LEARN HOW THEY ARE COOLED.

  • @charukrsnadasa they are not pouring radioactive water that is against interenational laws of population. plus that would effect all of the worlds oceans

  • What most fail to SEA is.... those dolphins were slaughtered simply because the people were told "dolphins are eating so much of the fish in sea their is little for people" so dolphins are treated as pests to be slaughtered. The real TRUTH is over 50 nuclear power plants strategicly placed all around Japan leaching RADIOACTIVE water into the sea daily killing all MARINE life & poisoning the remaining(fish food supply). My D U radiation playlist addresses these concerns, very CAREfully.

  • @DivadKrap im not trying to say that killing the dolphins is a good thing, but yeah money is a big motivator in the world. and to the people involved, that is the point.

  • This guy is my inspiration. Don't every stop what you're doing Ric. Maybe one day, I'll get to join you..

  • God bless Ric for his tireless effort to save the precious animals!!

  • HE NEEDS TO GET MORE CREDIT!!!

  • @DivadKrap its not just that, but the machinery they use that is IN THE TANK, puts up a lot of sound that can cause the dolphin stress because they cant do anything properly.
