My 1979 Dodge Adventurer 100SE pickup rolled out of Chrysler's Warren, Michigan truck assembly plant on November 4th, 1978, so here I'm starting it up for the first time since it turned 30 and looking at the 1979 Dodge trucks brochure. "Dodge builds tough trucks" was their slogan back then, and it has certainly proved true.

  • Man, thats a nice truck. I'm guessing you're the second owner?

  • @619426 I think I'm the 3rd owner. The guy I bought it from got it in 1993 with 48k miles on it.

  • I have an '87 Ram D150, shortbed, 225 ci slant 6 (last year for the slant 6), AT. Plain Jane model -- off white with blue interior, with just vinyl seats, no carpeting, no AC, AM radio. I bought it off the 2nd owner for $800 and is in great shape and runs great. Still has the original Ram hood ornament. I've hauled much stuff in it and used it to go rescue broken down friends by towing them home with the car dolly. Ram trucks rule.

  • @justin1138 Cool. That 225 is a champ, I hope to get something with one of them in it someday.

  • i have a 99 and its been great, but what bothers me is when i got it the guy told me he wouldnt use it as a daily driver. i do, and its fine at 280,000m. i take great care of it, but how long do you think i can keep it going strong. i love it and would hate to get rid of it.

  • The 318 and the 360 are good motors, they can go a long time if they are well cared for. In the late 90's really the only problem the engine might have is the intake plenum gasket blowing, which is common. You might not even notice a difference in performance (I didn't when the one in my '96 went). It just consumes lots of oil between changes, which can ruin the cat if it keeps up. If you replace it with an aftermarket gasket and aluminum plate, you'll never have to worry about it blowing again.
