HIT AND RUN HORROR!

These heart-stopping moments show an innocent pedestrian being mown down and left for dead by a cowardly hit-and-run driver.

CCTV captured the night-time impact in Bolton, Greater Manchester which left the 43-year old victim fighting for life.

The footage shows him crossing the road only to be flung in the air by the force of the crash and landing in the gutter.

As the pedestrian lies strucken in the road, a passerby runs up to help him - while the car a silver Vauxhall Vectra speeds off into the night.

The driver even turned off his headlights to make sure no one would follow him.

Now Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information to catch the driver following the incident at 8:15pm on Sunday 25 October 2009 on Buckley Lane.

The victim has life threatening injuries and underwent major facial surgery remains in a serious condition at the Royal Bolton Hospital. The car was last seen heading towards the New Bury estate.

Sgt Garry Lyle, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "To knowingly leave a man dying in the road is nothing short of appalling and the actions of a coward.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the current whereabouts of the car or its driver to call police.

"The collision caused considerable damage to the windscreen on the passenger side of the car so I would urge anyone who spots it, or anyone who has been approached with a view to repairing it to call police immediately.

"Someone will know where it is and who was driving and I would appeal to them to please do the right thing and get in touch."
