It's absolutely heart thrilling--and I hated this symphony before I heard this! Schumann always seemed so plodding, every beat so heavy. But Rattle is a miracle worker. He goes for the long lines, the longest phrase and it's a new world!! Thanks so much for putting this online.

How does the Academy at the Berliner work?
bluerose1495 9 months ago
@bluerose1495 Herbert von Karajan had the idea of a programme within the orchestra, to take responsibility for training highly qualified new musicians for the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 1972 the Orchester-Akademie was founded as an institution whose aim would be to equip extraordinarily talented young musicians to meet the requirements of the Berliner Philharmoniker and other leading international orchestras. Tutored by members of the orchestra, they acquire unique skills and experience.
