This comes from Carl Sagan's Cosmos episode 7, "The Backbone of Night." Carl Sagan teaches children, at his former elementary school, about the Universe and our place within it. Near the end of this clip, is yet another of Carl Sagan's most profound messages: "There are in fact 100 billion galaxies, each of which contain something like a 100 billion stars....We find that we live on an insignificant planet, of a humdrum star, lost in a galaxy, tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe, in which there are far more galaxies than people."

  • This is a pretty deep science lesson for a group of primary school kids. :P

  • @soreiks Have you seen Neil DeGrasse Tyson? He's not a clone, but he's taking up the task.

  • quick! clone him and put him in every class of the world!!!

  • @TheEnjoiPandolin Who wants to come and help?

Everyone flips the fuck out. They are excited, they're just thinking!

  • These kids aren't excited enough. If Carl Sagan was teaching me shit, I'd jizz my pants.

  • @onlyonechoice Would our lives be any more significant if our planet was at the center of our galaxy or if our solar system was the only thing in the universe? What does our placement or size have to do with our significance?

  • The universe doesn't owe you anything. Your life does not "have" to have a greater purpose. Enough people wanting the truth to be otherwise doesn't give the desire any credibility. Learning how the world and universe around us works isn't "sad." On the contrary, it's enlightening in a way that is far more wondrous than your "Goddidit" explanation ever will be.

  • @onlyonechoice I laughed my ass off.

  • @onlyonechoice What is sad is that there are still people that take the bible as historical evidence...
