  • The Tandberg 3014A is in my option the best Tape Deck Ever Made, and I have been studying audio for the last 20 Years.

  • This is the best deck Sony ever made! TC-K990ES was also good, but it had no Dolby S. I wonder how big the difference in terms of sound quality is between the 7ES and the European model TC-KA6ES. Steve, what's your opinion?

  • Hi @Roppje The 7es has a slightly warmer sound more like sound from a record player, the 6es has a slightly "tinner" sound, both are very good for a cassette Dolby S removes almost all of the wow and flutter, and can produce cassettes in which most people cannot tell the difference between it and a CD, not bad for a dictation medium which was released in the min 60s.

  • Hi blazer

  • This is definitely one of Sony's best decks. However, I thought they made one model even higher, the KA9ES.

  • Hi @blazer1824 There is no KA9ES, sony stopped making "Hi End" decks as

people lost interest in the cassette after CDR became popular

  • Hello Andrew !

Again i have new cassette eck SONY TC-KA7ES. In champagne.

    Original photos:

  • Get a Sony DTC-ZA5ES DAT recorder to match the rest of the system.

  • Which Tandberg tapedeck you you mean ??

I've just read something about a Arcam Delta 100 which is also one of the best ever made .

haven't heard them all of course

The pioneer 939 was the best sounding and most reliable for more than 5 years

Nakamichi is great but straightness of sound in terms of wow and flutter is not very good .. although specifications show otherwise

  • sorry, nackamichi is really the best.

  • I too have an XA30ES, still wanting a KA7ES tho, nice deck

  • Dolby S can't remove Wow and flutter, which is the result of mechanical forces. It doesn however remove virturally all hiss and increases dynamic headroom considerably.

  • Hello Andrew!

At you very good equipment. I still remember all these equipment)))

Probably you remember me? This I Elxan. That guy. Which has sold to you. All these equipment.

I have SONY TC-KA7ES. In champagne. This also very good deck. But my KA7ES. It is made only for Japan. A network: 100 volt.

But a sound very pure and transparent.

  • This is not the best Sony deck ever made. That honor belongs to the TC-K770 which came out back in 1980 or so, just before Dolby C came out. It sold back then for $900 and was a very solid and heavy unit. It had 3 heads and a flip-down panel which hid screwdiver-slot controls for adjusting bias and record level for each channel. Sony ran a special for salesmen when they discontinued it and I could have bought one for $250 but didn't. If I had I would still have it today, I'm sure.

  • If I am not mistaking the 3 and the 6 were identical but they were called a 6 in Europe and a 3 in the U.S. The 7 however was on a whole nother level. Much better build, with better and more expensive internal components and better sound. Many believe it bettered most of the Nak decks in terms of sound quality. I can't say for sure if that's true since I've never heard a 7.
