@hillerm thats becuz he was the first gracie to go away from bjj to learn folkstyle wrestling.

@billysue2 Compared to people now? You mean the people he, and his family trained and taught the art to?? Rickson is done competing. His son KRON GRACIE is one the best grapplers in the world right now.

@jitsujohnny if there was a weight difference of 45 kg and we know kimura was certainly no more than 85,that would make helio 40 kg,around 6 stone. The difference was 20 kg maximum.Kimura was lightyears better than helio.
-
@rctrue at the time he was considered the best bjj lad, compared to people now hed be average as a grappler or mma fighter.
-
@rainriders everyone was crap compared to now, nobody crosstrained so the grappler who could deal with strikes always won, doesnt mean the gracies were anything great,it was the strategy that worked in that situation.
-
I don't know why you directed your commented to me, because I was saying there wasn't much weight difference, if at all. I agree that Kimura completely destroyed Helio.
-
@saltyseaweed the difference wasnt just the weight difference,a judoka on kimeras level would be an incredible amount stronger, faster and fitter than helio, not to mention far more skilled. He destroyed helio. How the gracies claim that merely surviving that long as a win is a joke.I can survive against lads who are way better, bigger and stronger than me,but id have zero chance of beating them.

When Rolls was at his peak, the best BJJ fighter for MMA was Ivan Gomez, top student of Carlson Gracie who fought a Vale Tudo match against a Judo Gold Medalist (Olympic) to draw. Gomez got really good because Carlson taught him everything he knew unlike Helio and his sons in Humaita who kept techiniques inside the family.

@rainriders no, but in those days, who was more of a badass than the gracies really?

Helio never had a weighed match in his career to my knowledge, so there is no "official" weight for him. 140 pound figure comes from Helio himself in an interview years later, but Helio's recollections have various factual issues. I think you should just judge for yourself from watching Kimura v. Helio video (it's on Youtube). If Kimura is 185, I personally think Helio is reasonably close to that figure.
after rolls ther'is been an other gracie the greatest of all time rickson gracie

Rolls seemed like a much better wrestler and far more dynamic grappler than any of the other grapplers you see in videos during this period.
