Album Review: What Happend by Emeralds

2nd album from these Cleveland boys was released on No Fun records in 2009.

What Happened contains 5 experimental / electronic lengthy improv tracks. Two synthesizers and a guitar player is what is at the core of the sounds.

Very ambient and spacey. The guitar is mainly lost deep in the mix while the keyboards makes all the spacey drones and small little blip and bloops. A very calm and subdued sounding album.

While it's always refreshing to hear this kind of experimental / improv, I feel the songs could have been fleshed out a little more, some not so hot music ideas expanded on a little less and maybe bumped the crazy up a notch. while are the sounds were innovative and creative, I found myself in and out of interest while listening to it.

Not a bad listen if your into ambient / experimental space noise, but the album left me wanting a little more.

I'd compare this to Tortoise, Godspeed, Tangerine Dream.

Dude, don't let my rating fool you, I liked this album, I just felt some parts could have been fleshed out more, know what I mean.
