    Not it wasn't; we're well aware of the forge welding techniques used in damascus blades - from the techniques employed in katanas in feudal Japan to damascus blades on 16-18th century Europe.

    Yes, seriously. The technique that produced the 16-18th century Damascus blades was lost. Researchers have theories, but there is nothing concrete.
